The original  voyage was a quest to rediscover  the  remarkable  Alfred Russell Wallace,whose wanderings in the archipelago changed the way we see the natural world. A contemporary of Charles Darwin,he provided him with vital clues in developing the theory of evolution by natural selection.

The book illustrations were published in 1997,written by adventurer Tim Severin.
