From the frothy spume on the strand,to dark bogland and forest,to the meandering
riverbank. Like a knife dissecting the typographical landscape,from the coastline,to terrain and river,this work explores some of these components.
The mythical,territorial,and marginal are investigated. The scale and proportion of these works has been of interest since the mid 90’s. From the diary notebook pages to the more solid pieces on wood,working within the dimensions of the square. It helps analyze the segmentation of land,river and sea.
Colour is not the primary interest,it can almost interfere with these scapes. Materials include plaster,wax,stockholm tar, bitchumen,ash,varnish,collected paint dust,and household paints.
What is hidden within the space, is more fundamental than what is
on the surface. Titles are generally ambiguous, but hint and encourage further inspection.
Like-the open sea,something emerges -a paradox-there is always something concealed.
Alter,vary,adjust,reform,and evolve,-works become interesting when they developed into something other than the original intention. This is a fundamental departure point for these pieces.
These drawings are a foundation for the rebuilding and regeneration process.
Its not about conclusions or endpoints,some works have been transformed over a fifteen year period and only occasionally shown.
