1962
Born 28 February in Dublin. Early interest of things seagoing, as both father,uncle
and grandfather were professional seamen,
The latter was Harbour master of Dun Laoghaire during the war years
having trained on ships as a cadet,circumnavigating the globe twice,before the age of 21.
In 1970’s Early seagoing adventures on a small sailing boat,took the family to places like-
the Scottish coastline,visiting the Outer Hebredies, Iona, Staffa, Skye,the Orkeys,and
Caledonian canal. Other voyages since then and more in more recent times include
circumnavigation of the coast of Ireland,Irish sea,Wales and parts of coastal UK,
Brittany,French and Portuguese coasts.
1980
Dun Laoghaire School of Art and Design, Dublin.
Tutors include Corr Klassen graphic designer,Gunther Wolff filmmaker,
and Patrick Graham painter.
1984
Diploma in Graphic design,Honors.
1985
Awarded scholarship to study at the Beijing language Institute,and the academy
Fine art,under professor Li Hongeren,Dept. of Lithography
1990
Set up Gull Graphics and worked primarily in the area of architectural illustration and
presentation drawings.
1995
First major solo exhibition in Dublin at the Guinness Hopstore.
Over fifty works shown,all mixed media painting
1996
Selected as voyage artist and quartermaster for Tim Severin's 'Spice Islands Voyage'.
Severin a renowned author and adventurer,for previous expeditions including The
Brendan Voyage,the Sinbad and The China voyages.
In six months and covering 2,500 miles in a specially constructed traditional Kei Island vessel,
It sailed among the eastern islands of indonesia,that victorian naturalist and explorer
Alfred Wallace His research and travel,provide Charles Darwin with vital clues in developing
his theory of evolution by natural selection.
1997
First exhibition of work at the Paul Kane Gallery Dublin.
1998
The Spice Islands Exhibition,The National Museum,Dublin.
Irish representative to the International Watercolour Symposium in Latvia.
Awarded best conceptual work in the medium.
2000
Invited as tutor to visit Morocco with students from the Barlett School of Architecture,London.
Visits the desert for the first time. Moves to live in County Wicklow.
2004
Produces first film, KISH; initially for a artist in residence project,
a short experimental documentary,with two other artists Nigel Baker
graphics and post production,and Martyn Taig, musician.
2005
Desert's Edge' an exhibition at the Paul Kane Gallery, using the wasteland of
the desert as a metaphor for war and its repercussions.
Studies made in Morocco used as initial basis.
Artist in residence at Krems, The Factory, Lower Austria.
Guest tutor with students from the Barlett School of Architecture,London.
the home and studio of Walter Pichler,one of Austria’s most highly regarded
artists, in Burgenland.
2006
Second film 'Hermitage' selected for the Samhlaoicht Film Festival.
Hermitage,another short film about Skellig Michael,where between the 6th and 8th
centuries was an important spiritual retreat and settlement of ascetic monks.
Second invitation as Artist in residence at Krems Lower Austria,and exhibits at the
Kunstverein Baden,Austria. Field trip to Alabama as guest tutor with students from the Barlett
School of Architecture,London. Visits ‘Rural studio’- a unique architectural and design school.
2007
Lives and works in Ireland and Austria.
2008
New body of work produced in Austria,exhibited in Ireland.
2009
Exhibits 'Requiem for Tiananemen' for the second time only,on the the 20th anniversary of
the massacre in Beijing,at the Turn-Berlin gallery,Berlin.
2010
Currently working on an exchange exhibition between Austria and Ireland
